The Viviane Esders Endowment Fund is pleased to announce the opening the second edition of the Prix Viviane Esders, dedicate to professional European photographer over 60 years old, independent and engaged in a creative process.
It rewards photographers whose work over a period of forty years or more deserves to be highlighted.
The Prix Viviane Esders falls within the framework of programmes developed by the endowment fund created by Viviane Esders. As a continuation of a passionate, independent and committed life path, the purpose of this endowment fund is to continue the contribution of its founder to photography, to bring to life a collection of nearly 600 pieces, most of which are the result of singular encounters, and to extend the initiatives of transmission and sharing around a love of photography that Viviane Esders promotes.
A jury consisting of five personalities linked to the art world will select the winner with Viviane Esders among five nominated photographers. The exceptional grant is intended to celebrate the continuity of a career and encourage sharing. Part of this grant must be used by the winner to contribute to producing a book.
The Viviane Esders Prize honors each year the work of a professional European photographer (European Community, United Kingdom, Switzerland) over 60 years old and still active. It rewards a career already recognized, whose importance deserves to be highlighted and to be more clearly registered in the history of photography. The candidate does not have to be represented by an agency or a collective. He or she may be represented by a gallery (note: a gallery may co-opt only one photographer among its members).
The winner will receive 60 000€ of which 10 000€ will be dedicated to the production of a book. Presided by Viviane Esders, the jury is composed of French and European personalities from the world of photography and culture.
The jury will select 5 nominated photographers who will benefit from a particular visibility. The winner will be chosen among the 5 nominees.

It must include the following:
- The completed application form and the signed and initialed rules: DOWNLOAD HERE
- A written biography with a CV (3 pages maximum)
- A portfolio of 40 dated and captioned images summarizing the photographic career (the photographs must be integrated into PDF files). The selection must be accompanied by a short text of presentation of the whole and/or a short text by series of photographs.
- A note of intention motivating the candidature by justifying the utility of this endowment to prolong its work (3 pages maximum)
- A copy of the identity document attesting the age of the candidate.
Applications may be submitted in French or English.
The application must be sent in a single PDF file not exceeding 50 megas.
This year’s Viviane Esders Prize will be presented during the Paris Photo event in November 2024.
The winner will receive €60,000, of which €10,000 will go towards publishing a book. Chaired by Viviane Esders, the jury consists of French and European personalities from the world of photography and culture.
There is no entry fee to participate!
