RBSA Portrait Prize

ABOUT THIS EXHIBITION

The RBSA’s Portrait Prize provides an opportunity for a wide variety of portrait artists to show their artwork and be rewarded for their talents through a range of prizes. Following on from our 2019 Portrait Prize, the RBSA is excited to extend the scope of the exhibition to include photography and digital artwork. All styles and genres of portraiture are eligible for this exhibition.

The following prizes will be awarded:

First prize £1000 sponsored by GMC
Second prize £500 sponsored by Galliard Apsley Partnership
Third prize £250 sponsored by Judd Medical
Student prize £250 sponsored by RBSA Member
Up to six highly commended certificates will also be awarded

All mediums are accepted, including photography and digital work, and we welcome submissions from artists both national and international.

Selection for the Portrait Prize is by digital image of the original artwork only. All works entered go through the same selection process. No artists, including Members & Associates of the RBSA, are automatically selected.

This year’s exhibition will be selected by:

John Devane, RBSA Honorary Professor of Painting; Professor of Painting, Centre of Arts, Memories and Communications, Coventry University
Marta Kochanek, multi-award winning photography artist
Professor Jennifer Powell, Director of The Barber Institute of Fine Arts

Selected works announced by: Tuesday 26 March, 4pm

- Saturday 27 April, 11am – 4pm
Exhibition on display: Tuesday 7 May – Saturday 8 June
Private View: Tuesday 7 May, 6 – 8pm
Artists’ Talk: Saturday 18 May, 2 – 3pm
Collection of work: Sunday 9 June, 12 – 3pm

Artists may enter up to four pieces of work.

Free for RBSA Graduate Artists.

50% discount for artists under 35 (please provide proof on delivery of artwork).
