You can now enter the world’s largest and most respected adventure and action sports imagery contest. The Red Bull Illume Image Quest is officially back for its seventh edition and looking to showcase the next wave of talent, with categories to appeal to both photographers and videographers, whether you’re an aspiring amateur, a seasoned pro or a social media enthusiast – we are open for amazing content from all the creators out there.

- 10 categories in total
- Eight photo categories via our submission platform, judged by an international panel of editors and experts
- Two Instagram categories for both photos and reels up to 60 seconds, via Instagram and the tags @redbullillume and #rbi23submission, judged by the community

Will Saunders, winner of the previous edition in 2021 explains why you should enter. “Winning was beyond special and I would encourage everyone to check out Red Bull Illume and submit your photos. You never know. I never thought this would happen.” He adds: “Red Bull Illume is all about blending art and sport. It’s a special competition because it pushes both athletes and photographers to create something new.”
Two ways to enter
There are eight photo categories you can enter here which are judged by a 50-strong international panel of photo editors and experts from the industry after submissions close on July 31, 2023 midnight (UTC). We suggest entering as many categories as possible to broaden your chances of winning, but consider what you enter into each category; it influences the judges’ selection – so read the category description before submitting, and choose wisely!
In addition, there are two Instagram categories, Photos of Instagram and Reels of Instagram. They give a platform not only to photographers but also to passionate videographers and they work a little differently to submissions on our website. The submission phase is shorter, running only from May 1 to May 31, rather than the three-month window for the other categories and you can enter via your public Instagram profile with a single photo post or a single reel post including the tags @redbullillume and #rbi23submission. The selection process is also different, the finalists and winners of these two categories are judged by the community via two rounds of online voting on redbullillume.com in June 2023.
Submission requirements
➜ Images must have been taken after August 1, 2021.
➜ Images with less than 12 megapixels will be disqualified. You can submit five images per category. You may not submit the same image to more than one category.
➜ Basic image editing and color corrections are allowed, i.e. brightness, contrast, sharpening, mood and white balance. If any other alternations have been made, the image must be submitted to the Creative category.

Prize
All category winners and the overall winner will receive trophies and a selection of outstanding prizes from reputable brands.
The winning images for all categories will be revealed in winter of 2023 and will then travel the world, alongside the stories behind the shot and about the photographer.
