Rupert Alternative Education Programme

Rupert is pleased to announce the open call for the 12th edition of the Alternative Education Programme, which will take place between 12 JUNE AND 22 NOVEMBER 2024.

The deadline for applications is 17 MARCH, 23:59 (EEST).

Rupert’s Alternative Education Programme (AEP) is a para-academic study programme embracing decentralised knowledge exchange, intersectionality and process-driven R&D. It seeks to expand the academic field by promoting self-study practices, peer learning and close relationships between participants and tutors.

Each year, up to 9 participants are selected to take part in the programme, which provides them with the opportunity to develop their projects through a series of workshops, lectures, seminars, research trips, crit sessions and studio visits.  The programme maintains a close relationship between theory and artistic practice while recognising the importance of the ineffable, intuitive and numinous.

Rupert’s Alternative Education Programme is free and open for all, regardless of their background or current practice. While the programme should be the participants’ priority, it is conceived to be compatible (part-time) with other engagements, such as studies or work. The participants have a chance to engage with Rupert’s vibrant creative community—our residents, speakers, and guests—and have access to the network of the institution.

THE 12TH EDITION

The 12th edition of the Alternative Education Programme is developed in partnership with Triangle-Astérides (FR), Performing Arts Forum (FR), Aikas Žado Laboratory at Žeimiai Manor (LT), Akee (LT), Contemporary City Festival Audra (LT) and Radio Vilnius (LT), Ola Radio (FR).

In 2024 AEP will continue to explore the theme of Transgressions and Traversability. The juxtaposition of critical inquiry and peripheral knowledge will function as a malleable framework that will provide participants with the tools to develop their practice and think along the complexities and uncertainties of the contemporary world.

The programme will be developed over SIX MONTHS FROM JUNE TO NOVEMBER IN VILNIUS (RUPERT), SAINT-ERME (PERFORMING ARTS FORUM) AND MARSEILLE (TRIANGLE-ASTÉRIDES). The programme will be concluded with a final event in Marseille and Vilnius.

During the time in Vilnius, the participants should expect to have a session each week in Vilnius and two sessions a week in Marseille. The session is usually split into two days and takes somewhere between 8 and 12 hours in total. The detailed schedule might vary and will be provided after the selection process.

Selected participants are expected to be based in Vilnius and Marseille for the duration of the programme in Lithuania and attend at least 80% of the activities.

THE STRUCTURE

The 12th edition of the Alternative Education Programme will unfold in three stages:
