Residents receive a personal studio space and 24hr access to the Brooklyn studio, on top of a 30% adult classes discount. WIP residents host events, lectures, and workshops for the community during their residency.

WIP FAQ
What does the residency offer?
Studio space, roughly 6 x 6 ft
Promotion through TAC social media
24hr access to the Brooklyn studio
30% discount of TAC Classes
Are there any requirements for the WIP residents?
Yes, WIP residents are required to do a community event during their residency, be at their studio in Open Studio hours to interact with the public, and set up an installation of their studio in the WIP Studio. Displays can feature tools, materials and artwork in various stages of progress, focusing on public engagement. The artist should leave behind a clear visual narrative so the public can get a glimpse of “work in progress” even when the artist isn’t present.
When are the Open Studio hours?
Open Studio hours are every Sunday from 2pm to 5pm.
Does the proposed project need to be finished by the end of the residency?
We understand that a month is a short time to develop a project. Therefore the project doesn’t need to be finished by the end of the residency and the time at TAC studio can be used to explore different techniques, focus on a specific piece, brainstorm ideas, etc.
How long do the community events need to last?
From one hour to 3 hours are comfortable for guests.
Who provides the materials for the community event?
TAC is able to provide the residents with materials on hand for open studio and TAC’s adult classes. Specific materials for the workshop that are unique to the artist’s proposal are the responsibility of each resident to source. TAC can purchase materials comparable to the artist’s request at their discretion.
Does the residency include access to equipment at the studio?
Yes, the residents have access to different equipment in the main studio during Open Studio hours and after hours. Single user equipment, such as the yardage table, requires a reservation. Residents have 24/7 uninterrupted access to their own studio.
Why is there an application fee if the WIP residency is free?
The $25 application fee supports the reviewing process for the residency.
Textile Arts Center hopes to provide access to artists who wouldn’t otherwise be able to apply for our residencies to best support the growth of our community. Our funds are limited and we ask that applicants please consider their needs and the needs of their community when inquiring about waiving application fees. If you are in need a an application fee waiver, email artistprograms@textileartscenter.com
