The Horst Janssen Museum scholarship

Research Fellowship at the Horst Janssen Museum 2025

The Horst Janssen Museum is awarding a scholarship for the fourth time, with renewed support from its sponsoring association. It is aimed at young scientists and artists whose main interests are in the field of drawing and graphics.

Our museum is named after the North German draftsman, etcher, woodcutter, poster artist, illustrator, author and graphic artist Horst Janssen (1929-1995). Our museum is therefore dedicated to fine art on paper. In addition to Horst Janssen, we also present classic and contemporary positions in drawing and graphics.

We are interested in your ideas and perspectives! Put Horst Janssen’s work in a context with classical and/or contemporary drawings. Discover connections and develop new questions.

Framework conditions

The funding is for one year with a monthly flat rate of 1,200 euros (gross). A furnished 2-room apartment close to the museum in the former house of Horst Janssen’s grandparents, where he spent his childhood, is available free of charge. We assume that you will live in Oldenburg during the scholarship. A research assistant at the Horst Janssen Museum will be happy to support you with your research work.

The museum has an extensive graphic collection as well as a large number of printing plates, parts of the written and photographic estate and the library of Horst Janssen, as well as a research library and museum database that can be used.

The scholarship holder will be selected by an expert committee. The new term should begin on February 1, 2025 if possible.
