Compensation for development and implementation of the cultural program during the stay: 2,000 euros/month.
1,000 euros for material costs.

Of coal, miners and crises – that is the title of the history of coal mining in Stockheim in the Franconian Forest. When miners dug up the black gold for the last time in 1968, a tradition that had lasted almost four centuries came to an end. The traces of coal mining are still present today in many different ways.

The Mobile Atelier invites an artist to Stockheim in the Franconian Forest from mid-September to the end of October 2024 to creatively engage with the eventful mining history of the place or with the nature of the low mountain landscape and the characteristic forest. And where could this be better than in the former administration building of the mine? Light-flooded and spacious rooms are available as a studio in the newly renovated Rentei, which will open this year as a new cultural center. The Rentei brilliantly embodies the bridge between mining tradition and cultural future.

The Mobile Studio is a place of encounter, exchange and inspiration. It invites you to engage with contemporary art and to engage in dialogue with the artist. The stay is therefore characterized by a diverse educational program by the artist. On around eight project days, the artist is supposed to make the creation processes of his or her art tangible in the form of self-designed formats and/or encourage others to dare to try artistic experiments themselves.

Program:

The Mobile Atelier aims to increase the visibility of contemporary art. It therefore travels throughout Bavaria and offers an independent (art) space for dialogue between artists and residents of a wide variety of Bavarian locations. The Mobile Atelier is a project of the BBK Bavarian regional association, financed with funds from the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and the Arts. It offers the opportunity to experience one’s own art in a temporary studio and to implement artistic visions. The development and implementation of the cultural program during the stay is remunerated with 2,000 euros per month. In addition, up to 1,000 euros in total is available for material costs for workshops or similar. The municipality of Stockheim provides accommodation free of charge.
