We’re simply guided by this question: How do beauty and strangeness collide? For our fourth issue, we’re approaching this inquiry through the theme of Contours. Contours are limits, outlines that demarcate by design. Confining and defining — How do contours function as both closed boundaries and thresholds of possibility? Take that in any direction.
Our publication avidly encompasses broad fields – from literature to science, history to music, all disciplines are welcome. We’re simply guided by this question: how do beauty and strangeness collide?
For our fourth issue, we’re approaching this inquiry through the theme of Contours. Contours are limits, outlines that demarcate by design. In some ways, they circumscribe, girding abstraction with structure in ways that restrict and regulate. In other ways, they illuminate, reifying nebulous patches of reality into solidity so that we may apprehend chaos. Confining and defining — how do contours function as both closed boundaries and thresholds of possibility?
Take that in any direction: you could explore the architecture of a verse or the limits of the mind; return to the conventions of your art, or run far beyond form into the unchartered territories of the heart. All these, and more, are welcome within the contained depths of Vol. One, Issue Four.

Guidelines
- Publication history:We seek previously unpublished works
- Genre: There are no restrictions in genre
- Word limits: We ask for prose pieces and dramatic works to be not more than approximately 1500 words (we are, after all, The Primer!)
- Multiple submissions: We accept a maximum of four pieces per submission – with the exception of visual art, for which the maximum is ten pieces per submission
