This Homeland: Exhibition Open Call

This is an exciting opportunity for up to 40 selected artists to be exhibited for a year within three of London’s prime hospital exhibition spaces.

The Responsa Foundation champions projects that have strong positive social impact and public engagement at its core. We have teamed up with Imperial Health Charity, who are dedicated to enhancing patient care and experience, improving health outcomes through providing artworks in hospitals.

This is an open call for all artists to submit an A4-size artwork with a separate short text describing what Homeland means to you.

The concept of “Homeland” is different for everyone. It can serve as a foundation of self and identity, linking you to others, or it may make you feel distanced from them. Homeland has the power to evoke countless emotions, memories, and sensory experiences.

ARTWORK 

The artworks are in two parts: a print and a written piece to go with it. 

We invite artists to create an A4 size image (21 x 29.7 cm) entitled ‘This Homeland.’ The original artwork can be in any medium, though we ask that the final artwork is sent to us as a high-resolution digital file. It can either be in landscape or portrait format.

WRITTEN WORK

Please include a text (150 words max) on what Homeland means to you. It can be in the form of any creative writing, from a written paragraph, to a poem or a recipe. This will be exhibited alongside your artwork. Be inventive as this will be judged as important as your artwork. Also please be aware of who your audience is and adjust your text accordingly. This means no swear words, nothing overtly religious, political or divisive. 

EXHIBITING

We are excited to announce that selected artworks will be exhibited from August 2024 to August 2025 within three prime London hospital exhibition spaces which are all a part of The Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. 

The exhibition schedule will begin in August 2024 at Charing Cross Hospital, followed by St Mary’s Hospital and will end in July 2025 at Hammersmith Hospital. Therefore the selected artists’ prints will be exhibited for a year, with four months in each space. All the exhibition spaces are in prominent locations and have a large international footfall, meaning your work will be seen by thousands of people.

HOW TO ENTER

All hospitals specify that they can only display printed artworks due to health and safety reasons. 

1.) Create your artwork.

2.) Email the image and writing to us (contact@responsa.foundation) or send both via WeTransfer. 

The format of your artwork must be sent as a jpeg file, minimum 300 dpi, A4 in size and between 5 to 10MB.

We invite you to share your artwork to Instagram using the hashtag #MyHomelandCompetition and be sure to tag us @ResponsaFoundation in the photo for a potential repost on our Instagram account. Please note you must still submit your artwork via email.
