(UN)LEARNING DISTANCES: International residency programme

(UN)LEARNING DISTANCES International residency programme

(UN)LEARNING DISTANCES
International residency program

FAVORITES Festival

Application deadline: January 10, 2024

Under the motto  (Un)Learning for possible futures, the  FAVORITEN Festival wants to question what we think we know, (un)learn from and with each other and give space to different perspectives. In order to engage with (un)learning on a global level, the festival has initiated an international program line:

(UN)LEARNING DISTANCES is an international residency program  of the FAVORITEN Festival that opens a dialogue between artists and cultural workers from the global context and from North Rhine-Westphalia.

The residency program attempts to bring artists and cultural workers with similar thematic and/or aesthetic interests into an exchange, combining international perspectives and enabling artistic collaborations. In three to five teams, one artistic position from North Rhine-Westphalia and one from another part of the world work on their common research interests. We particularly want to give artists and cultural workers whose life and/or work focuses on Latin and Central America, Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe the opportunity to take part in the residency program.

Over several months, the teams will undertake an artistic work process in the digital space, as well as in Dortmund, and present their projects as part of the FAVORITEN Festival from September 5th – 15th, 2024.

Support: Te residency programme is supervised by Patrick Kohn (project management), Anne Mahlow (artistic direction, dramaturgy) and technical staff during the festival. In addition, each team will receive a budget for a mentor of their choice. Furthermore, there will be an outside eye for each team, which will support interim presentations and provide feedback.

Budget: A production budget of 3000€ is provided for each team, as well as a fee of 4000€ for each artistic position. Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the festival.

Teams: Tere will be three to five residency teams (depending on funding confirmation). Each team consists of one artistic position from NRW (Germany) and one from another country. An artistic position can be either an individual or a collective.

In our Open Call you will find all information about the residency program, as well as the application form. Cultural workers and artists from North Rhine-Westphalia and other countries can apply either individually or as collaborating teams.
