USF Verftet and the council of Bergen offers a residency to professional artists of all fields. The aim is to strengthen, promote and develop collaborations between contemporary artists in Bergen and foreign artists.
Application deadline is 1st of March 2025 for residencies through 2026. Application link to be found at “Info and application”. Application form is open from 1st of January 2025.
Who can apply
The residency is open to professional, foreign artists of all fields: visual artists, writers, curators, craft artists, writers, film directors, film makers, dancers, choreographers, stage performers, performance artists, composers, musicians, audio and new media artists. The residence is open to all international artists, except norwegian citizens or artists living in Norway. Please note: the residency does not have universal accessibility standard, as there is a steep spiral staircase to the apartments.

Studio Information
Studio 1 (67 square m): is suitable for a fine artist (all media) or a craft artist. The floor is tiled and the studio has basic furniture, but is not equipped with tools or computer.
Studio 2 (47 square m): mainly for use by authors, composers or artists who works on computer / makes “clean” work. It is equipped with office furniture (no computer) and a Yamaha dgx 630 keyboard and active speakers.
Accommodation Information
The apartments (they have two, 21 square meters each) are situated at the small boat harbour at the USF Verftet. They are equipped with essential furniture, linen and towels, cooker, refrigerator and kitchenware. In addition to a single-bed, both apartments are provided with a sofa bed / settee sleeper. The apartments are small and not suitable for families, but just big enough for a couple.
Location
Bergen is the second largest city in Norway, with approximately 270.000 citizens. Bergen is famous for its medieval and early modern wooden city centre, which contains a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bergen is situated on the west coast between sea, fjords, islands and mountains, and nature is easily accessible. A variety of art forms are well represented with museums, theaters, galleries, happenings and a number of internationally recognized festivals (dance, music, art, film etc).
Paid by host: Accommodation and studio, wireless internet connection in the studio and electricity included.
Paid by artist:
All expenses (other than studio and accommodation) such as living costs, travel, materials, insurance and transport must be covered by the artist. The artist must apply for possible funding from her / his own home country. There is no Norwegian funding related to this residency. The selected artist must be prepared to be quite self-reliant.
Application guidelines:
The application must consist of the application form, project proposal for the residency period and artist statement, updated cv, and documentation of work. Current work is requested. Please note their aim in your application process: “The aim is to strengthen, promote and develop a collaboration between contemporary artists in Bergen and foreign artists.”
The application must be sent electronically through the application form. Please limit your documentation to a maximum 5 MB. If you are sending video material, please refer to downloading sites like Vimeo, YouTube etc. If you do have a personal updated website, it is accepted as application material for documentation of work, cv etc.
Residents are selected by a jury composed of Bergen professional artists and other arts professionals.
