VIA Art Fund Grants

VIA is now accepting applications for our Fall 2024 Artistic Production Grants! May 16th is the deadline to submit a Letter of Inquiry. Prospective applicants interested in learning more about VIA’s Artistic Production Grants are invited to join an Information Session with Susan Thompson, VIA’s Director of Grantmaking and Curatorial Research, on April 19th at 12:00pm EST. The session will include information on VIA’s funding priorities, application process, and proposal guidelines, followed by a Q&A session for prospective applicants. Visit www.viaartfund.org/apply for more details and to RSVP.

VIA Artistic Production grants are awarded to artists, nonprofit organizations, and institutions to support new artistic commissions that take place outside museum or gallery walls, within the public realm, or in non-traditional exhibition environments. Individual artists or producing organizations seeking funding must have a confirmed exhibition venue or presenting partner. Artistic Production funding ranges from $25,000 to $100,000 per project. Artistic Production Grants are awarded to projects that best exemplify our core values of Artistic Production, Thought Leadership, and Public Engagement.

Grant Program FAQs

Artistic Production

Artistic Production grants fund the production and exhibition of new artistic commissions, in amounts ranging between $25,000 – $100,000. Often exhibited beyond museum walls in public space, these projects feature high levels of thought leadership, artistic production, and public engagement. VIA Art Fund accepts Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) on a semiannual basis for our Fall and Spring award cycles.

Curatorial Fellowship

The VIA Curatorial Fellowship is awarded annually to a contemporary art curator whose past accomplishments attest to, and current aspirations promise, significant contributions to the field. The Fellowship carries a grant award of $25,000 in discretionary funds for professional development, research, and travel, and participation in VIA partner programs. The Curatorial Fellowship is by nomination only. We solicit nominations from colleagues, constituents, and VIA partners.

VIA Art Fund’s Incubator Grant Program has come to a close.

From 2013 to 2018, VIA Art Fund supported the work of emerging arts nonprofits through its Incubator Grant Program. From 2019 to 2023, VIA and Wagner Foundation partnered on a five-year, $1 million VIA | Wagner Incubator Grant Fund, which supported the building of a robust and inclusive national arts ecosystem. The program awarded unrestricted general operating support to twenty-five small-scale nonprofit arts organizations throughout the United States. The five-year VIA | Wagner Incubator Grant program was successfully completed in 2023.

Due to our small staff and the high volume of correspondence we receive, we cannot take general inquiries by phone. For questions not answered in our FAQs, please email grants@viaartfund.org.
