W&K Residencies in Salzburg

Residencies in Salzburg for artists, curators, cultural mediators and academics

The residencies serve to provide impulses for a diversity-oriented, discrimination-conscious practice on site in Salzburg. In particular, Arts & Knowledges aims to expand and sharpen the awareness for diversity of its members, in its topics and activities.
The call was made possible by the International Prize for Science and Research (Kulturfondspreis 2023 der Stadt Salzburg) awarded to Elisabeth Klaus as the then Director of Science and Art (W&K).
The residencies support the implementation of projects that are located at the interface between knowledges and arts and deal with questions of diversity in the context of “Cultures in Transformation”. This may involve the planning and implementation of workshops, performances or smaller exhibitions, or the use of action-oriented artistic or scientific methods.
We welcome new and surprising formats.
The projects should have links to the three Focus Areas and the doctoral school and serve to enrich their work in the long term. We expect active participation in the W&K program and open communication with those involved. A public event will be offered during the course of the residency.

We offer
• two 4-week residencies with an allowance of € 2,500 per project. These can be arranged flexibly between May 1, 2025 and April 30, 2026, but should not take place during the lecture-free periods (1.2. – 28.2. & 28.6. – 30.9.).
• a quiet 2-room apartment near the train station and within walking distance of W&K for the duration of your stay in Salzburg.
• a friendly working environment at W&K’s location in the KunstQuartier.
• an opportunity to experiment, research and network.

All artists, curators, academics and cultural mediators are eligible to participate.
A jury of experts will decide on the awarding of the residencies.
The submission deadline is 27.01.2025.
