Each resident will receive a $10,000 honorarium, a $2,000 materials/professional development stipend, daily access to a 200 square foot studio space and shared studio resources, a Flex Desk Cowork pass in the Center for Craft’s National Hub, as well as monthly downtown parking or bus fare stipend.

The WNC Center for Craft Artist Residency will provide two Western North Carolina (WNC) based artists with time, space, and resources to tend to their artistic practices.

Recognizing the vital role artists play in building and sustaining the interconnection, and overall well-being of communities – this residency is designed to provide a regenerative experience that allows artists of WNC to rejuvenate their practices, grow their skills, and expand their networks.This 8 week residency will take place at the Center for Craft located in downtown Asheville, North Carolina.  

Two selected artists will work alongside two Virginia A. Groot Material Exploration Residents in a cohort of four artists.  Each resident will be given their own studio space and ample time to work independently as well as have the opportunity to build relationships with other residents and participate in engagement opportunities such as studio visits with regional curators, museums, and/or collectors and explore regional craft schools (eg. Penland School of Craft, Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts, and John C. Campbell Folk School).

Each resident will receive a $10,000 honorarium, a $2,000 materials / professional development stipend,  daily access (8am – 10pm M-F, 10am – 6pm Sa-Su) to an approximately 200 square foot studio space and shared studio resources, a Flex Desk Cowork pass in the Center for Craft’s National Craft Innovation Hub, as well as monthly downtown parking or bus fare stipend (up to $250).
