Tulsa Artist Fellowship (Grounded in the George Kaiser Family Foundation’s vision for social change). The program is committed to cultivating an environment where artists and arts workers invested in the community can thrive through sustained financial support, resources, and connection.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the 2027–2029 Tulsa Artist Fellowship.

This is a place-based, durational award supporting visionary artists and arts workers across disciplines. Up to ten awardees will be selected to dedicate three years to their practice while engaging meaningfully with the city of Tulsa. Awardees commit to developing an ambitious, community-engaged project or line of inquiry that contributes to Tulsa’s cultural life.

Eligibility:

  • Who: National and local artists and/or arts workers.
  • Experience Limit: Applicants MUST have at least 5 years of arts field experience.
  • Age & Citizenship: Applicants MUST be at least 25 years old AND must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, O-1 visa holder, or Tribal ID holder.
  • Relocation & Presence: Awardees MUST relocate to, reside, and work in Tulsa, Oklahoma, full-time for the entire three-year award term. Extended time away requires prior approval.
  • Academic Ban: Applicants cannot be enrolled in a full-time academic program during the award term.
  • Exclusions: Previous Tulsa Artist Fellowship awardees and employees of GKFF are strictly ineligible.
  • Collaborators: If applying as a collaborative team, each artistic collaborator MUST submit an individual application.

Program Benefits & Awards:

Each Fellow is supported through a massive three-year package:

  • Stipend: $150,000 project development and artistic practice stipend (distributed over 3 years).
  • Housing: $36,000 housing support (over 3 years).
  • Relocation: $1,500 studio move-in stipend.
  • Additional Funds: $3,600 for studio assistant support and $3,600 for health and wellness support.
  • Workspace: A fully subsidized private studio (337–583 sq ft) with access to extensive shared facilities (ceramics, woodshop, metal, media lab, performance space, podcast studio).
  • Wellness Benefits: YMCA membership for the household and caregiver reimbursements for key Fellowship activities.

Application Requirements:

  • Submission Portal: Applications must be completed online via the official portal.
  • Written Materials: Includes a Biography (max 250 words), Artistic Practice Statement (max 500 words), Fellowship Statement (max 500 words), Project Description (max 500 words), and an estimated budget allocation for the $150,000 stipend.
  • References: Three (3) professional references from the arts field.
  • Portfolio Constraints: * Images: 5–10 items (max 10MB each, at least 72 dpi).
    • Writing: Poetry (max 3 pages, single-spaced); Prose/Plays (max 8 pages, double-spaced).
    • Time-Based Media: Maximum of 10 minutes total. If linking an extended video, exact timestamps must be provided.
    • Formatting: Uploaded files MUST have the same name as the work sample and the applicant's name. Captions (max 100 words) are required for each sample.
