Organizer Information:

ausstellwerk is an art association in Huglfing, near Weilheim in Upper Bavaria. The association focuses on contemporary art in its various forms and offers this residency to provide an artist with uninterrupted time to develop a site-specific exhibition.

Applications are open for the 5. Huglfing Residency (2026).

This four-week working residency allows a professional visual artist to work undisturbed in a summer studio located directly at the Huglfing train station. The goal is to develop a site-specific exhibition tailored to the unique aesthetic conditions of the provided spaces (a warehouse and an old signal box).

Eligibility:

  • Who: Professional visual artists.
  • Geographic Constraint: Applicants must NOT live in Munich or Upper Bavaria.
  • Working Style: The main selection criterion is the artist's existing work and their ability to conceptualize a site-specific exhibition for this unique environment.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Grant: A €1,000 residency grant.
  • Workspace: Access to a warehouse (featuring a main room and a side room) and an old signal box specifically for artistic interventions, both located at the train station.
  • Accommodation: A small, fully provided apartment hosted by a local artist in Uffing (one train stop away from Huglfing). (Note: The applicant is expected to use this accommodation).
  • Exhibition & Promotion: A concluding exhibition (ideally starting July 10 or 17, 2026), printed invitations, and dedicated press work.

Application Fee & Program Costs:

  • Application Fee: Free to apply.
  • Participant Costs: The workspace facilities are basic; artists must bring their own materials and tools. Artists are also responsible for their own commute (a DeutschlandTicket is highly recommended for traveling the single stop between the accommodation in Uffing and the studio in Huglfing).

Work Exchange & Obligations:

  • Public Engagement: The artist is encouraged to hold open studio hours on an afternoon or evening for interested visitors.
  • Artist Talk: An evening artist talk is planned in conjunction with the final exhibition.

Submit a single PDF document (max 10 MB) containing:

  1. A CV (including your artistic career).
  2. A brief description of your work project/proposal.
  3. Meaningful illustrations and images of your artworks.
