Organizer Information

The EB-Dietzsch-Kunstpreis e.V. is a prestigious German art association founded in memory of the artist Eberhard Dietzsch (1938–2006). Based in Gera, the organization works in partnership with Volksbank eG Gera•Jena•Rudolstadt to sustain the local and national art scene. Their mission is to foster contemporary Painting and provide a platform for high-quality artistic dialogue. The biennial award has become a significant fixture in the German art calendar, known for bridging the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern conceptual themes. Title & Description

The 9th EB-Dietzsch Art Prize for Painting 2026: "Metamorphoses"
The 2026 edition of this Competition centers on the theme "Metamorphoses". Artists are invited to submit works that interpret the concept of change—whether through nature, social structures, or personal identity. This call is a dedicated Project to highlight the enduring power of the painted medium. The goal is to select works that demonstrate a high degree of technical mastery and a deep intellectual engagement with the thematic prompt. Finalists will have their work showcased in a professional Exhibition environment, allowing for significant networking and public visibility.

Categories

  • Primary Discipline: Painting.
  • Technical Constraints: Only traditional or experimental painting techniques are accepted (oil, acrylic, mixed media on canvas or paper). Photography, Digital art, and Sculpture are not eligible.

Eligibility

  • Location: Open to artists residing in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (D-A-CH region).
  • Experience: Professional visual artists and students currently enrolled at a recognized art academy.
  • Submission Limit: Maximum of 2 works per artist.
  • Work Age: Pieces must have been created within the last 3 years.

Program Benefits & Awards

  • Award/Prize: A total cash prize of €5,000 for the winner.
  • Exhibition: Shortlisted artists (approx. 30-40) will participate in an Exhibition at the Volksbank in Gera.
  • Catalog: Inclusion in a high-quality, printed Publication documenting the finalists.

Additional Details

Shortlisted artists must arrange for the transport and insurance of their physical works to the venue. The jury focuses on the "spirit of the craft" and original interpretation. A 20% commission is taken on works sold during the show to fund future Grant and prize programs.
