Academic Assistant (50%) for Time-Based Media and Performance (m/f/d)
HfG Karlsruhe seeks a part-time academic staff member (50% position) in the Media Art department with a specialization in time-based media and performance. This role focuses primarily on teaching, student mentoring, and advancing the quality of pedagogical engagement in areas that blend performative strategies with evolving media practices.
The position is designed as a qualification role in a vibrant international academic setting. Initial employment is limited to three years, with a possibility of extension to a maximum of six years, and is remunerated according to the German public service scale TV-L up to E13, based on qualifications.
The Role Overview
- Salary & Contract: Paid position with remuneration up to pay grade TV-L E13, depending on qualifications. Fixed-term contract (3 years, extendable to 6).
- Workload: Part-time (50% employment).
- Department: Media Art / Faculty of HfG Karlsruhe.
- Reporting To: Department leadership within the Media Art faculty.

Position & Tasks
The academic assistant will be expected to:
- Develop and teach introductory and advanced courses in time-based media and performance.
- Encourage critical and practice-based understanding of media art and performance.
- Mentor and guide students in their artistic exploration, linking artistic theory and practical work.
- Lead cooperative research projects involving students.
- Organize and coordinate workshops, seminars, and public presentations (including exhibitions).
- Contribute to an inclusive departmental culture by promoting diverse perspectives in curriculum and discourse.
- Provide organizational support for academic self-administration within the department.

Eligibility
Successful applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a completed university degree in Fine Arts, Media Arts, Performance Studies, or a closely related field.
- Have experience in artistic practice and/or research in time-based media and performance.
- Demonstrate teaching experience and familiarity with group facilitation processes.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to foster an inclusive academic environment.
- Be proficient in German, with a strong command of written and spoken English.
