Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) was inaugurated on 15 April 1992, founded by Professor Dr. Heinrich Klotz between 1989 and 1992 together with the ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe. The university combines artistic, design, and theoretical subjects — communication design, product design, media art, exhibition design and scenography, alongside art research, media theory, and media philosophy — with interdisciplinary project work practiced across all courses from the start. The Karlsruhe University of Art and Design (HfG) is seeking an Academic Assistant for a part-time (50%) qualification position under § 2 WissZeitVG, attached to a professorship with a focus on image studies within the Art History & Media Philosophy programme. The position combines independent teaching (2 SWS) and participation in examinations with scientific research toward a dissertation, as well as involvement in projects, events, and self-administration at the level of the degree programme, the professorship, and the university. The role is initially limited to three years, with the possibility of extension to a maximum of six years in total, and duties are further defined under § 52 of the Baden-Württemberg State Higher Education Act.

Eligibility
- University degree (MA) in Art History, Art and Visual History, or a comparable field
- A recognizable professional profile with a freely chosen focus, ideally capturing the history of art in its media and global entanglements (the position is assigned to a professorship with a focus on image studies)
- A dissertation project, which may also be pursued at another university, accompanied by a short project description
- Initial teaching experience and scientific preparatory work
- Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary, team- and project-related manner
- Very good written and spoken English; other languages are an advantage
