Organizer Information:

We-Che Art Residency. We-Che Art Residency is an artist-run project, founded and designed by artists for artists. Located in the Chubut region of Patagonia Argentina, it is indeed the most austral Art Residency.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the AIR special Book Project.

We have launched this year our art residency in Patagonia, and we decided to dedicate an AIR program exclusively to book projects, in a special 1-month format book residency. What if you give a breath to your creativity and get some fresh air from the mountains while working just for you? Each participant is free to work on several projects and, depending on their affinities, to collaborate on a collective work. The final book(s) can be in digital format, as a high-definition, print-ready PDF, or as a small edition of hand-crafted art books.

Category:

Book Arts, Writing, Photography, & 2D Techniques.

Eligibility:

  • Who: All creators related to books are welcome, including writers and poets, storytellers, photographers, paper artists, and practitioners of small format 2D techniques, graphic novel authors, and travel writers.
  • Capacity Limit: The residency can welcome 1 to 3 (maximum 4) residents at the same time.
  • Program Limitation: The residency cannot support public workshops or exhibitions for the moment.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Mentorship: The proposal is a half self-directed, half guided residency with a punctual grupal or individual mentorship, when needed, to support each project and achieve each one’s book in a 1-month residency from A to Z. At every stage of your work in progress, we are here to support you and help you complete it while enjoying your stay.
  • Workspace: Share a calm yet friendly workspace in an inspiring place, conducive to teamwork, sharing experiences, and constructive exchanges and moments of conviviality. We will configurate the shared workspace for it, with a special focus on hand-crafting autonomous possibilities (manual tools for special folding, paper and cardboard cutting tools, sewing machine, book-binding press…) and paper art and drawing tools.
  • Accommodation & Facilities: Private accommodations. Your bedroom, bathroom, and your private desk for those moments when you need to dive in and stay focused with minimum distraction.

Application Fee & Program Costs:

  • Residency Fee: $350 USD per week or $1250 USD per month per resident. (For a special book project residency, the minimum duration is 1 month).
  • Additional Support Costs: For more ambitious book projects aiming for a final professional HD printing, an additional complete professional graphic design and production support may be added with extra cost (price based on time and complexity).
  • Funding Note: We-Che is currently unable to provide financial support for visiting artists. However, for artists applying for grants and scholarships in their home country, We-Che can provide official documents and letters of invitation as necessary.

Application Requirements:

Applicants must download and fill out the "Special BOOK Project" AIR Program application form from the website. You must also prepare a PDF with a brief description of your project (or what you want to achieve) along with some pictures of related works and any information that can help the organizers understand your practice.
