The Arts/Industry Residency Program at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, in collaboration with Kohler Co., offers artists the opportunity to explore new ideas and create innovative work using industrial materials and processes in pottery and foundry facilities. This internationally renowned program fosters creative exchange and supports artists from diverse disciplines in producing new bodies of work.

 

Information & Application Details:

  • Application Period: January 1, 2025 – February 28, 2025.
  • Residency Length: 3 months, divided into three cohorts (4 artists per cohort: 2 in pottery and 2 in foundry).
  • Residency Period: 2026.

 

Eligibility: Open to artists of all disciplines, no prior experience with clay or cast metal required.

Submission Requirements:

  • 10 images of the artist’s work.
  • Artist statement (250 words max).
  • Statement of interest (250 words max).
  • Statement of experience (250 words max).
  • Résumé/CV (3 pages max).
  • Contact information for 2 professional references.
  • Semi-finalists will be required to submit a detailed project proposal outlining residency goals and expected outcomes.

 

Selection Process: A competitive jury process selects up to 12 artists annually. Decisions are based on the strength of the application materials and the artist’s openness to exploring new processes and ideas.
