Organizer Information:

The Art Students League of Denver (ASLD) was founded in 1987 by and for artists as a space where people can learn directly from professional working artists. Nearly 40 years later, the organization reaches 62,000 art lovers each year through programming including visual arts classes, exhibits, events, and the Visiting Artist series.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the Color Scheme Residency, created with the goal to increase visibility and provide resources to support historically marginalized artists.

This 7-month-long residency is tailored to the selected artist’s expertise and discipline. It offers the artist access to a dedicated studio space and the opportunity to lead workshops, lectures, and community engagement programs. The program culminates with an exhibition of work created throughout the residency (this may be a solo or group exhibition, as determined by the artist).

Eligibility:

  • Demographics: The program aims to be inclusive of historically underrepresented artists.
  • Age/Status: Open to national and international artists 21+ years of age.
  • Geography: Priority is given to artists from outside the Denver metro area.
  • Visas: International artists are responsible for any and all visa requirements.
  • Alumni: Alumni of ASLD’s Visiting Artist series are eligible.
  • Commitment: Open to artists committed to working with diverse community members.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Stipend: A monthly stipend of $4,000 (Totaling ~$28,000 for the 7-month period).
  • Studio: Access to a 900 sq ft dedicated studio space at ASLD.
  • Exhibition: A final exhibition to showcase work created during the program.
