Baltic Analog Lab (BAL) is an artist-run film lab and collective based in Riga, Latvia. The lab focuses on analog, photochemical, and interdisciplinary artistic practices, supporting filmmakers, photographers, sound artists, and researchers. BAL offers educational programs, residencies, workshops, and public events, fostering creative collaboration and engagement with the local and international art community.

BAL Residency 2026

This international residency program invites artists and researchers to work in Riga, exploring intersections of analog film, photography, and experimental sound. Participants will have access to a fully equipped analog lab, darkroom facilities, sound studio with modular synthesizers, and new equipment such as a Neilson-Hordell optical printer for experienced filmmakers. The residency encourages independent creative work while promoting community engagement through public presentations, screenings, and workshops. Artists can develop individual projects, exchange ideas, and explore experimental techniques across disciplines, combining photochemical, audiovisual, and sound-based practices.

Eligibility:
