The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity is the host of the Banff Centre Jazz and Sonic Arts 2026 and is a world-renowned post-secondary institution dedicated to arts, leadership, and mountain culture. Founded in 1933 and located within a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Canadian Rockies, it serves as a global leader in artistic development. Jazz & Sonic Arts 2026 – Improvised Music Residency
This residency is an invitation for jazz and sound artists to slow down and rethink their practice. The program encourages fearless exploration of new sonic territories through improvisation and experimental technologies. Participants will work with a prestigious faculty—including Melissa Aldana and Kris Davis—to create new works, record in professional studios, and engage in cultural dialogues that serve as catalysts for societal and ecological awareness.

Eligibility
- Global Scope: Open to national and international applicants.
- Experience Level: Aimed at artists at an advanced level of accomplishment (post-secondary students and professionals).

- Requirements: Applicants must be 18+ and have a well-documented record of musical exploration.

$65.00 (non-refundable). A reduced fee of $35.00 is available for applicants who identify as Indigenous.

Applicants should note that this program does not meet the requirements for a Canadian Student Visa; international participants must obtain a Visitor Visa or ETA.
