BBA Prizes is an initiative of the BBA Gallery, a contemporary art gallery located in the heart of Berlin. Since its founding, the gallery has focused on discovering and promoting emerging to mid-career talent from around the world. Known for its high-profile competitions, BBA provides artists with professional platforms to showcase their work, ranging from physical exhibitions in Berlin to digital presence on major global art marketplaces. The gallery operates under German law and is dedicated to fostering a diverse, international creative community.
Title & Description
BBA Artist Prize 2026
The BBA Artist Prize is a major international open call designed to find and support outstanding artistic talent. The prize is "theme-free," allowing artists to submit works that reflect their unique vision and practice. Selected finalists are featured in a high-profile group exhibition at a prominent Berlin venue, providing them with critical exposure to curators, collectors, and the public. The program aims to bridge the gap between independent artistic practice and the professional gallery world.
Categories
The call is open to all visual media and disciplines. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Visual Art: Painting, Sculpture, Installation.
- Mixed Media: Textile Art, Architecture-based work.
- Digital & Lens-based: Photography, Video, Digital Art.
Eligibility
- Artists: Open to all living artists.
- Age: Must be 18 years or older.
- Status: Open to International and National artists. There are no restrictions on training or nationality.
- Representation: Applicants must not have exclusive gallery representation (non-exclusive contracts are permitted).
- Restrictions: Relatives of jury members, BBA employees, and artists already represented by BBA Gallery are ineligible.
Program Benefits & Awards
Selected artists gain significant professional opportunities, including:
- Group Exhibition: Finalists participate in an exhibition in Berlin (2026).
- Cash Prizes: Specific amounts are awarded to top winners (First Prize winners may invoice 50% immediately for solo show production).
- Solo Exhibition: Winners may receive a contract for a solo show at BBA Gallery.
- Digital Promotion: Artsy profile winners receive a 12-month consignment agreement.
- Exposure: Inclusion in a royalty-free, worldwide license for promotion across print and organic/paid social media.

Application Requirements
- Digital Submission: High-quality images that accurately represent the artwork.
- Documentation: Signed Exhibition Participation Agreement (for shortlisted artists).
- Originality: Artists must be the sole creator/owner and hold all intellectual property rights.
- Readiness: Artworks must be ready for exhibition (framing and production are the artist's responsibility).

Additional Details
- Sales: BBA handles all sales during the exhibition and retains a 50% commission.
- Insurance: BBA insures the work only while on-site at the exhibition; transport insurance is the sole responsibility of the artist.
- Shipping: Artists are responsible for all costs related to shipping works to and from Berlin.
- Attendance: Selected artists are strongly encouraged to attend the opening events in person.
