Short Description

The competition is organised by the Municipality of Vila Real , The Biodiversity Drawing Contest aims to promote the natural heritage—encompassing natural regions, ecosystems, habitats, and wild species—through artistic illustrations. The contest seeks to encourage creative expression and debate on biodiversity conservation while fostering growth among participants who portray the wild’s natural heritage.

Theme:

Biodiversity: Celebrating and reflecting on the natural heritage of wild ecosystems, species, and habitats through both scientifically descriptive and expressive nature drawings.

 

How to Apply:

Registration & Submission:

Submit digital drawings in RGB, JPEG format (minimum 3000 pixels on the largest side; max file size: 10MB).

Files must not contain signatures, watermarks, frames, or identification in metadata.

For the Scientific Drawing category, the drawing must include the complete scientific name of the depicted species and a text (max. 300 characters) describing key elements.

 

Submission Requirements:

Each participant pays a registration fee of €5.

A maximum of 2 illustrations per contest category may be submitted.

All submissions must adhere to the technical specifications and be uploaded within the contest period.

 

Selection Process:

The Organizing Committee first verifies that submissions meet the criteria.

A Jury of at least three recognized experts will then evaluate the entries based on aesthetic and technical quality:

Scientific Drawings: Assessed for scientific accuracy, technical mastery, aesthetic quality, and thematic framing.

Nature Drawings: Evaluated for expressive quality, aesthetic appeal, and relevance to the contest theme.

The Jury may award honorable mentions and reserve the right not to award a prize if criteria are not met.

 

Eligibility

Open to participants worldwide (drawings of any geographical origin are accepted).

Only illustrations/drawings related to wild fauna, flora, and natural habitats are eligible; works depicting domesticated species or animals in captivity are not accepted.

Works previously submitted in earlier editions by the organizing entities are excluded.

Nature Drawing Category:

1st Prize: €250

2nd Prize: €100

3rd Prize: €50

Selected works will be featured in the catalog and exhibited during the FIIN Gala.
