Narture CIC. Founded by a father-and-daughter artist team, Narture is a community food and arts social enterprise that bakes real sourdough bread to fund arts projects. They are revitalizing vacant town center properties in Ayr, creating a regenerative creative ecosystem that includes a bakery, café, residency studio, print studio/darkroom, and co-working spaces.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for Blank Canvas – Artist in Residence Programme.

This is a month-long, place-based residency exploring the intersections of food, art, sustainability, and regeneration. The public-facing residency takes place in a street-level studio ("MAKE") where the creative process unfolds in real time. Artists will spend 3 weeks making work in a public-facing studio (minimum 4 days/week) and deliver 3 free community workshops, followed by a final exhibition or public event in Week 4.

Multidisciplinary. (Including visual art, food practice, sound, craft, print-making, photography, performance, music, writing, illustration, dance, theatre, zine-making, and socially engaged practice).

Eligibility:

  • Who: Creatives across all disciplines.
  • Age Limit: Applicants must be 18+.
  • Student Status: Current students are NOT eligible to apply.
  • Geographic Categories: The program is selecting 6 artists total:
    • 2 Local Artists (Ayrshire-based)
    • 2 National Artists (Scotland-based)
    • 2 International Artists (UK & worldwide, visa permitting)

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Artist Fee: £2,639.25.
  • Materials Budget: Up to £400.
  • Travel Support: Up to £200 (Local) / up to £600 (National & International).
  • Accommodation: Accommodation is provided specifically for International artists.
  • Workspace & Facilities: A public-facing studio space with access to creative facilities including a Riso print studio, darkroom, AV equipment, woodworking tools, and kitchen space.
  • Support: Mentorship, plus curatorial and technical support.
  • Exhibition: A final exhibition or public event at the end of the residency.
