Organizer Information

Burgas 2032 is the official cultural initiative leading the candidacy of the city of Burgas for the prestigious European Capital of Culture 2032 title. The initiative operates as a long-term cultural strategy platform designed to position Burgas as a dynamic hub for contemporary artistic production, interdisciplinary collaboration, and international cultural exchange. By activating urban spaces and encouraging innovative artistic practices, Burgas 2032 supports both local and global artists in engaging with pressing social, environmental, and cultural questions.

A central component of this initiative is the revitalization of the city’s port and industrial zones into vibrant cultural venues. Magazia spaces, including Magazia 1 and Magazia 32, are part of this transformation—serving as experimental sites for residencies, exhibitions, and collaborative projects. These spaces embody the organization’s commitment to adaptive reuse, sustainability, and the integration of art into public life.

Title & Description

Magazia 32 – International Artistic Residency & Production Program

Magazia 32 is an international open call inviting artists, collectives, and cultural practitioners to participate in a residency and production program in Burgas, Bulgaria. Developed as part of the Burgas 2032 cultural vision, this initiative supports the creation of new, context-responsive artistic works that engage deeply with the city’s identity, environment, and communities.

The program encourages interdisciplinary approaches and prioritizes artistic research, experimentation, and collaboration over purely outcome-driven production. Participants are invited to explore themes such as urban transformation, ecological awareness, maritime culture, migration, memory, and the evolving relationship between humans and their environments.

Artists will work within the unique setting of Burgas’ port area, using the Magazia 32 space as both a studio and a conceptual framework. The residency fosters dialogue between international participants and local stakeholders, including artists, curators, and community members. The program culminates in public-facing outcomes, which may include exhibitions, installations, performances, screenings, or participatory events.
