The City of Burien is a municipal government in King County, Washington, incorporated in 1993. Its Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services department runs a range of arts and cultural programming, including exhibits at the Burien Community Center and the Moshier Art Center, an annual Arts and Culture Grants program (up to $1,200 per recipient), the public art walking map, and the annual Arts-A-Glow light-art festival. 2027 Burien Gallery Program Call For Artists
The City of Burien invites artists residing in Washington State to apply to exhibit their work in one of three spaces in Burien: the Burien Community Center (BCC) lobby wall, The Maverick Apartments window, or Merrill Gardens Senior Living windows. Artists (or artist groups) may apply to exhibit in a single space, with exhibition lengths and stipends varying by location.
Burien Community Center Lobby Wall (2D only)

Maverick Apartments Window (2D or 3D)

Merrill Gardens Senior Living Windows (2D or 3D)
- 4th and 150th SW
- Nine windows total: five at 3' deep x 9' wide x 7' tall, two at 3' deep x 9' wide x 9' tall, one at 3' deep x 8' wide x 10' tall, and one at 3' deep x 9' wide x 11' tall

Eligibility
- Open to artists residing in Washington State
- Open to individual artists or groups of artists applying together for a single space (e.g., a team has previously done a light installation at The Maverick, and a group of 5 fiber artists has exhibited together at BCC)
Program Benefits & Awards
- $250 artist stipend for exhibiting at The Maverick or Merrill Gardens
- $50 artist stipend for exhibiting at the Burien Community Center
- Note: if a group applies together for one space, only one stipend is issued for the entire group — it is not multiplied per artist
- Wall tags and local Burien-area promotion provided by the City
- Hanging materials provided for the BCC space (artist-provided for Maverick and Merrill Gardens)

Additional Details
- Artists are encouraged to view the exhibit spaces in person before applying; a PDF of the gallery spaces is provided by the City
- No insurance coverage is provided for artwork while on display
- Artists are responsible for transportation, installation, and removal of their own artwork
- Artists are responsible for any promotional efforts outside the Burien area (the City covers wall tags and local promotion only)
- Per the FAQ, jurors evaluate quality of work, suitability for the specific space, and diversity of medium and artists across the program. The Maverick is noted as best suited to installation pieces; Merrill Gardens suits larger work or enough pieces to fill nine large windows; BCC suits smaller 2D work that can hang on a wire system
