Casa na Ilha. The Art Residency Program takes place on the island of Ilhabela, on the north coast of the state of São Paulo, Brazil (located 200 km from the city of São Paulo). Ilhabela is an ecological paradise covered by the Mata Atlantica (Atlantic rainforest) and is home to unique fauna and flora, with more than 73 beaches and 27 waterfalls of pure crystalline water. Because it is a unique ecological environment harboring endangered species, 84% of the island is a preservation area protected by the Parque Estadual Ilhabela.

Applications are open for the Casa na Ilha Residency.

The residency welcomes artists to develop a project or idea during a stay ranging from two to four weeks (with possibilities for extension). The studio provides a quiet space for focus, set in a humid, tropical environment that is warm year-round.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Both individual and group applications are accepted.
  • Language: Applications are accepted in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
  • Weather/Facility Note: The facility does not have AC (ceiling fans and blackout curtains are used to keep it cool).

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Duration: Flexible residency periods of two, three, or four weeks, based within the scheduled session dates.

Application Fee & Program Costs:

  • Application Fee: None (There is NO fee to apply).
  • Program Fees & Deposit: This is a fee-based residency. To secure your place upon acceptance, you are required to make a 50% non-refundable deposit of the total fees. The pending balance must be cleared 60 days prior to your arrival. (Note: Deposits and final payments are strictly non-refundable).

Application Requirements:

Submissions are processed within one week. To apply, you must provide:

  1. Short bio or statement.
  2. Proposal describing the project or idea you would like to develop during your stay.
  3. A brief description of what you do or a selection of works/writing samples (maximum of 12 items).
  4. Link to your website/blog (if you have one).
