Short Description

The Cranach Scholarship supports students at art schools and emerging artists by offering a one-month residency at the historical Cranach workshop in Wittenberg, Germany. Hosted by the Cranach Foundation, this program continues the artistic tradition of Lucas Cranach the Elder’s renowned painting workshop. The residency allows artists to work in the studio, engage with the public, and conduct workshops for young artists.

Mid-July to mid-August 2025

Mid-August to mid-September 2025

Applications must include:

Short biography

Artist’s career information (catalogs, photos – no digital images)

Stamped envelope (if applying by post and requesting return of materials)

Residency Requirements

Selected artists must:

Be present on-site during the residency.

Keep the Cranach workshop open daily for visitors.

Engage with the public through discussions about their work.

Conduct a public workshop discussion.

Lead a multi-hour workshop for young artists at the Youth Art School.

Selection Process

Applicants will be evaluated based on their artistic background, engagement with public programs, and alignment with the residency’s goals.
