Short Description

The Culture Directorate welcomes applications from international artists to benefit from an Artist in Residence program, offering the opportunity to develop their work in Malta over a period of one month.

Eligibility

  • The Culture Directorate residency is open to artists from all countries and all disciplines.
  • A residency with the Culture Directorate is intended for artists who seek to advance the role of the arts as a medium for exploration, connection and reflection through cultural opportunities, and collaborations.
  • A detailed portfolio should be provided by all applicants, including, if any, previous international collaborations and/or work carried out in Malta and/or with local artists.
  • All applicants, require at least 2 years of proven experience and practice in their respective field to be eligible to apply for the Artist in Residency 2025.
  • The application procedure is not open to artists who benefited from an artist in residency program offered by the Government of Malta in the past five years.

The call is open for established and emerging artists with a minimum of two years of proven experience in their respective field.

Program Benefits & Awards

The call is open for established and emerging artists with a minimum of two years of proven experience in their respective field. The allocated budget caters for a maximum of two artists, with a maximum total budget of with a maximum budget of €10,000 per artist.

  • Private accommodation including wireless internet
  • Coverage for travelling expenses to and from Malta.
  • A standard artistic fee
  • A per diem allowance
  • Access to facilities and collaboration with a number of cultural stakeholders of varying nature, as required.
  • Exchange and collaboration across the local cultural and artistic fields, including facilitated dialogue with independent artists, artistic companies, and artistic VOs, including those organisations working with vulnerable and socially marginalised groups3
  • Support with the visa process to enter Malta for artists hailing from outside the EU.
