Title & Description
Design Without Masterclass: a Neville Brody Masterclass
“Design Without” is an intensive professional development masterclass designed for experienced creative practitioners who want to disrupt habitual ways of working and challenge established creative assumptions. Rather than focusing on technical skill-building or production efficiency, the course is structured as a process-led environment where experimentation, uncertainty, and risk-taking are actively encouraged.
Across three intensive in-person days, participants are given rapidly changing, deliberately undisclosed briefs (such as words, objects, or prompts) and are required to develop responses within strict 24-hour cycles. The emphasis is not on producing polished or commercially viable outputs, but on exploring how creative thinking evolves under pressure and ambiguity.
The course functions as a structured “unlearning” environment, helping participants break out of repetitive professional patterns and rediscover more intuitive, lateral, and experimental approaches to creative problem-solving. A final online session follows the in-person component for reflection and critical debriefing.

Additional Details
This masterclass intentionally avoids pre-disclosed briefs or fixed timetables to preserve spontaneity and eliminate pre-formed expectations. Participants are expected to enter the programme without preparation, embracing uncertainty as a core creative condition.
The pedagogical approach prioritises process over outcome, discouraging reliance on familiar disciplinary skills. Participants are actively pushed to avoid defaulting to their primary creative medium, encouraging unexpected material and methodological exploration.
The environment is structured as a safe but critical space, incorporating peer feedback, facilitator-led discussions, and guest speakers from both creative and non-creative industries. The overarching philosophy is that “failure” is reframed as productive learning, and experimentation is treated as the primary output.
