Access Gallery, founded in 1991, is a Vancouver-based artist-run centre dedicated to supporting the Visual Arts and experimental practices. Director/Curator – Access Gallery (2026)
Access Gallery seeks a visionary Director/Curator to establish and implement its artistic vision, oversee curatorial programming, and lead organizational operations. This full-time role combines Curatorial, Art Management, and operational responsibilities, offering the opportunity to shape innovative Visual Arts programming, strengthen community partnerships, and oversee exhibitions, publications, and fundraising initiatives. The position encourages experimentation, collaboration, and the amplification of emerging artistic voices.
The Role Overview
- Salary: $58,000–$61,000 per annum + benefits
- Contract Type: Full-time, 1-year initial contract with 3–5 year renewal potential
- Start Date: Between June 1 – July 1, 2026
- Hours: 35 hours/week, flexible schedule
- Reporting To: Board of Directors
- Curator/Programme: Oversees all Visual Arts exhibitions, public programs, and publications
- Fee/Compensation: Paid full-time salary
Position & Tasks
Operational Responsibilities:
- Grant research and writing for municipal, provincial, federal, and private funders
- Fiscal oversight, including budget management and forecasting
- Recruitment, training, and management of staff, interns, and volunteers
- Overseeing communications, public relations, and outreach initiatives
Curatorial Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the artistic vision of Access Gallery
- Curate exhibitions and programs engaging public events (talks, performances, readings)
- Establish partnerships and collaborations for programming
- Oversee publications related to exhibitions and research
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Steward and expand donor base, oversee fundraising campaigns
- Work with the Board of Directors to implement the 2025–2030 Strategic Plan
- Participate in annual auction and other development initiatives
- Lead organizational special task forces as required

Eligibility
- Advanced degree (MA or higher) in Fine Arts, Curatorial Studies, Art History, Visual Culture, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a public art gallery, artist-run centre, or comparable cultural institution
- Demonstrated grant writing, exhibition curation, publication, and program management experience
- Commitment to equity, accessibility, and anti-oppressive practices
- Knowledge of contemporary art practices, particularly within the Vancouver artist-run community
