The Yale Center for British Art is seeking an experienced institutional leader for the position of Director of Curatorial Affairs, a senior executive role responsible for shaping the museum’s curatorial vision, exhibition strategy, and collections development.

This position sits at the intersection of Curatorial Practice, museum leadership, and public engagement. Position & Tasks

The Director of Curatorial Affairs will be responsible for institutional leadership and curatorial direction across multiple departments.

Institutional Leadership
  • Collaborate with the museum director to define curatorial vision and strategic priorities
  • Lead the Curatorial Division, including exhibitions, conservation, interpretation, and publications
  • Develop operational frameworks, budgets, and long-term planning systems
  • Foster cross-departmental collaboration across museum functions
  • Recruit, mentor, and manage senior curatorial staff
Curatorial & Collections Management
  • Oversee multi-year Exhibition programming (collection-based and loan exhibitions)
  • Guide acquisitions and outgoing loan strategies
  • Supervise conservation research and technical study programs
  • Develop international partnerships for touring exhibitions and collaborations
  • Strengthen collection research and provenance documentation
Interpretation & Publications
  • Lead museum interpretation strategy focused on audience engagement
  • Oversee the publications department and scholarly outputs
  • Ensure consistency between exhibitions, interpretation, and public communication
  • Promote accessible yet research-driven curatorial narratives
External Relations
  • Build partnerships with museums, scholars, collectors, and cultural institutions
  • Support fundraising and donor engagement strategies

Eligibility
