Horsepower is a not-for-profit gallery located in the Haghill area of Glasgow’s East End. Run by local artists Sarah Palmer and Josh Wirz, the gallery’s mission is to support emerging and early-career talent while actively contributing to the local community. Horsepower provides a vital platform in a historically industrial part of the city, focusing on accessible contemporary art and solo exhibitions that highlight the creative density of Glasgow.

East End Open 2026: Call for Artists in Glasgow

This group exhibition is a celebration of the creative practitioners who define the vibrant cultural landscape of Glasgow’s East End. Horsepower is seeking submissions from individuals who live and/or work in the local area, emphasizing inclusivity and community connection. The exhibition is open to artists at any stage of their practice—formal art school training is not a requirement. By bringing together a diverse array of local voices, the East End Open aims to showcase the breadth of artistic production happening right on the gallery's doorstep.

Eligibility

  • Open to Domestic artists based specifically in the East End of Glasgow.
  • Applicants must currently live and/or work in the East End area.
  • Open to all mediums and all stages of practice (amateur, emerging, or professional).
  • No requirement for a degree in fine arts or art school background.

Application Requirements

  • Submissions: Up to three pieces of work may be submitted (to provide a view of the practice as a whole).
  • Recommendation: Artists are encouraged to submit at least one smaller work to assist with exhibition curation.
  • Submission Method: Via the official online Google Form.
  • Content: Digital images of the works along with artist details.

Additional Details

The gallery is easily accessible via Alexandra Parade train station or various bus routes (38 series) from the city centre. Free on-street parking is available for artists during drop-off and collection.
