About Everything But The Work: 

Started in 2024 by Ashley Diane Saldana and Karly Jean Kainz, Everything But The Work is a project focused on unveiling the everyday ideas that are behind one’s practice. With individual practices that are greatly informed by their everyday life, Saldana and Kainz created a platform. After seeing numerous platforms and sites that heavily focused on the end results of one’s work, both Saldana and Kainz saw an opportunity and asked, “How could we show someone’s practice without actually showing their work?” Existing solely on Instagram (for now!) Everything But The Work is an ongoing project of exploration and vulnerability allowing artists to share insights into their practice, but never their work.

Call Title: Featured Artist – Quarter 4

Each week, we highlight one artist for a deeper dive into their practice. Over the course of five days (Monday-Friday), featured artists will be showcased on our Instagram and website, following the structure below: 

  • Monday –– Introduction. Who are you and what do you make?
  • Tuesday –– Processes. What does your practice look like?
  • Wednesday –– Influences. Who inspires you and your work?
  • Thursday –– Challenges. What’s an obstacle you’ve had to overcome?
  • Friday –– Reflections. What’s next?

This is a chance for our community to connect more personally with artists –– to explore the ideas, moments and experiences that shape their work. It also lets us spend more time celebrating each artist and what they bring to the table.
