Plug In ICA invites applications for the position of Executive Director & Curator, beginning in 2026. This senior leadership role combines executive administration with curatorial direction, offering a unique opportunity to shape the artistic and strategic future of one of Canada’s key contemporary art platforms. The successful candidate will guide institutional vision, oversee exhibitions and public programming, manage organizational operations, and strengthen financial sustainability. The Role Overview

  • Position: Executive Director & Curator
  • Contract Type: Full-time
  • Salary: $75,000 – $95,000 CAD annually (commensurate with qualifications and experience)
  • Schedule: Requires availability during standard office hours and scheduled programming events
  • Reporting To: Board of Directors

This is a long-term executive leadership role within a contemporary art institution and not a short-term residency or fellowship.

Position & Tasks

The Executive Director & Curator will:
  • Develop and implement the artistic vision and curatorial direction of Plug In ICA.
  • Lead the conception and realization of exhibitions and public programs.
  • Oversee daily operations, budgeting, and staff management.
  • Lead fundraising initiatives, grant development, and donor relations.
  • Ensure effective governance in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Represent the organization nationally and internationally.
  • Foster partnerships within the contemporary art community.
The role requires both visionary curatorial expertise and strong executive management capacity.
