Executive Director – Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra
The Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra is seeking an Executive Director to serve as the organization’s primary leader and public representative. This role is responsible for guiding strategic direction, strengthening community relationships, and ensuring operational and financial sustainability.
The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors and oversees both administrative and programmatic functions. The position emphasizes inclusive leadership, youth engagement, and the development of accessible music education pathways. The role combines strategic planning, fundraising, community outreach, and organizational management within a mission-driven youth arts context.

Position & Tasks
Leadership & Strategy
- Provide organizational leadership in collaboration with the Board
- Align daily operations with long-term strategic goals
- Advise the Board on decision-making and organizational direction
- Support Board development and recruitment
- Monitor trends in youth development and music education
Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with students, families, schools, and community partners
- Represent MVYSO at public events, concerts, and outreach activities
- Ensure programs reflect community needs and inclusivity goals
Fundraising & Sustainability
- Support fundraising initiatives including events, sponsorships, and campaigns
- Develop and manage grant applications and reporting
- Maintain donor relations and ensure proper acknowledgment systems
- Coordinate volunteer engagement strategies
Program Oversight
- Support inclusive and accessible youth music programs
- Reduce barriers to participation (financial, cultural, logistical)
- Supervise artistic and educational staff (conductors, coaches, specialists)
- Oversee program logistics, instruments, and travel within budget
Communications & Outreach
- Coordinate communication strategies with marketing leadership
- Oversee public messaging and website updates
- Ensure accessible, consistent communication with families and stakeholders
Operations & Financial Management
- Oversee budgeting, payroll coordination, invoicing, and tuition systems
- Work with Treasurer and accountants on financial reporting and compliance
- Ensure grant compliance and reporting obligations
- Maintain insurance and risk management coordination
Team Leadership
- Supervise staff and ensure alignment with organizational values
- Manage HR systems, including personnel records and onboarding
- Maintain an inclusive, supportive workplace culture
