Organizer Information:

KH7 Artspace is an artist-run community and exhibition space located on the south harbor in Aarhus, Denmark (situated on the 2nd floor of Sojahuset, alongside a smaller rehearsal space for experiments). The ambition of KH7 Artspace is to provide a vibrant platform for artistic dialogue and expression across generations and genres.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for MODUS, a group exhibition grounded in children’s modes of experience.

Rather than treating children as a target audience, the exhibition approaches childhood as a way of sensing, understanding, and inhabiting the world—defined by immediacy, physical engagement, curiosity, and multisensory perception. MODUS seeks to dismantle established norms of audience behavior by challenging the traditional separation between artwork and viewer.

Important Note: A central, non-negotiable criterion is that all artworks must be fully touchable. Works must be structurally, materially, and conceptually intended to be handled, activated, worn, moved, pressed, entered, or physically engaged.

Category:

Multidisciplinary & Interactive.

(Installation, sculpture, sound/sonic arts [headphone-playable], textiles, digital media, performance-based structures, and hybrid practices).

Eligibility:

  • Who: Artists working across disciplines whose practice can accommodate full physical interaction, vulnerability, and participation.
  • Scope: International/National.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Exhibition: Participation in the MODUS group exhibition scheduled for October 2026 at KH7 Artspace.

Application Fee:

Free to apply.

Program Costs:

  • Artist fees and exhibition support are highly dependent on external funding and are otherwise sparse.
  • Applicants from outside of Denmark must be able to handle and cover all of their own expenses for transport, shipping, travel, and visas.

Application Requirements:

Artists must propose works where knowledge emerges through action and meaning is produced through doing. Sight, sound, texture, weight, movement, and resistance must be treated as equal contributors to understanding. Works may be playful, chaotic, fragile, or rigorous, but must accept interaction as an inherent condition.
