Organizer Information
This residency is delivered by Feral, a Glasgow-based arts producing house founded in 2015 by Jill Smith and Kathryn Boyle. Feral supports independent artists through touring, festivals, and creative residencies, particularly in visual theatre, outdoor arts, and interdisciplinary movement practices. Their work focuses on enabling artists to develop sustainable practices, engage with new audiences, and experiment outside traditional performance spaces. Feral’s residencies are funded through Creative Scotland and aim to provide mentorship, producing support, and strategic guidance to artists at various stages of their careers.
Title & Description
Neighbourhood Outdoor Arts Residency (April–June 2026)
Feral invites Scotland-based artists and collectives to apply for a two-week funded outdoor arts residency focused on developing performance work that responds to the artist’s own neighbourhood. This self-led residency supports creative research, exploration, and testing of new work in outdoor contexts, including parks, gardens, streets, playgrounds, woodland, beaches, or civic spaces. Artists working in contemporary performance—such as dance, live art, visual theatre, circus, or interdisciplinary practice—are encouraged to engage with their local environment as the stimulus for their residency.
The residency emphasises creating work beyond traditional performance venues and encourages reimagining public space. While there is no requirement for a public outcome, artists may choose to share their research with local audiences through presentations, talks, documentation, or other creative formats. Feral provides producing and mentorship support to assist artists in developing their projects and securing permissions for site-specific work.
