Short Description:
A portrait tells a story. Portraits can show us what a person looks like, or how the artist sees them, but they can also capture an idea of a person or what they stand for. Portraits can also reveal how a person wants to be seen, and capture a particular attitude or mood that the sitter wishes to convey.
A portrait can do many things. It can give a sense of importance to a person and their life; it can make a person more widely known; it can also give immortality to a person’s character: portraits live on forever! For this open call, Gallery 40 is seeking portrait artworks in any medium, but limited to 2-dimensional artwork.
Application Requirements:
Work must be for sale.
Work must be original artwork (no reproduction prints, example: a giclee of a watercolor)
Work must be submitted by the artist.
Work must not have been previously exhibited at Gallery 40.
Work must be professionally presented: wired and ready to hang. Hangers such as velcro or sawtooth hangers may disqualify work from being included. The gallery reserves the right to reject works that are not ready to hang or differ from the digital representation submitted.
Size: The maximum (framed) width is 36 inches, maximum height is 48 inches.
Work must be 2-dimensional wall art – We are not accepting 3-d work for this show.
All works must be clearly labeled with the artist name somewhere on the piece. Orientation of artwork should be indicated if not obvious.
Exhibition Terms: Work must remain in Gallery 40 for the duration of the exhibit. All works in the exhibit must be for sale. Gallery 40 will retain a 30% commission on all sales. Retail sale price is determined by the artist.
Eligibility:
Artists 18 years and older living in the United States are invited to submit up to three works of original fine art for juror consideration.
All 2-dimensional artwork will be considered.
Program Benefits or Awards:
(1) $100 Juror’s Best in Show, (2) $50 Juror’s Honorable Mention Award
Entry Fee:
A non refundable $35.00 entry fee for up to 3 entries total will be collected at time of submission by entrythingy.com. Multiple entries from the same artist must be submitted at the same time to take advantage of the Entrythingy fee.
