Organizer Information

The internships are organized by the Getty Foundation, part of the J. Paul Getty Trust, a global arts organization dedicated to the visual arts, research, conservation, and education. Since 1993, the foundation has supported over 3,800 undergraduate internships across 190 Los Angeles-area arts institutions, promoting diversity and professional development in museum and arts careers.

Title & Description

Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internships – Summer Program
This program provides paid summer internships for undergraduate students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in museums and visual arts professions. Interns gain practical experience in core museum and arts organization areas such as curatorship, conservation, education, publications, and public programming. The internships aim to introduce students to arts careers, build professional skills, and foster long-term engagement with museums and visual arts organizations. No prior arts experience is required.

Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate (bachelor’s or associate’s program) or recent graduate of the preceding semester/quarter.
  • Attend college in or be a permanent resident of Los Angeles County.
  • U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or DACA status valid through the internship.
  • Students from backgrounds underrepresented in the arts are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Open to all undergraduate fields of study; no previous arts experience required.

Program Benefits & Awards

  • Full-time internship (40 hours/week) for 10 consecutive weeks between June–August.
  • Stipend: $7,150 for the summer term.
  • Mentorship and practical experience in museum and arts organizations.
  • Educational components: mandatory Arts Summit and two Learning Community events.
  • Exposure to LA’s major cultural institutions and networking opportunities.
  • Alumni professional development opportunities, including workshops, fellowships, and the Getty Marrow Emerging Professionals pilot program.
