Organizer Information

The Glover Prize, Australia's most prestigious award for contemporary landscape painting, is an annual acquisitive prize inaugurated in 2004 by the John Glover Society Inc. and dedicated to the best depiction of the Tasmanian landscape (broadly defined to include seascapes and cityscapes). The John Glover Society Inc. was established in 1996 in Evandale, Tasmania, to celebrate and preserve the legacy of John Glover (1767–1849), one of the most influential landscape artists in Australian colonial history. The Society’s mission is centered on promoting contemporary landscape painting and fostering a deeper public appreciation for the unique environment of Tasmania. As a custodian of heritage and a driver of modern art, the Society has successfully positioned the Glover Prize as a landmark event in the Australian cultural calendar—now attracting hundreds of entries annually from artists worldwide, with the winner receiving $80,000 plus a bronze maquette of John Glover (valued at $5,000), alongside additional awards such as People's Choice ($3,000), Children's Choice ($500), and Hanger's Choice ($500).

Title & Description

The 2026 Glover Prize

The Glover Prize is widely recognized as Australia’s most prestigious Award/Prize for contemporary landscape Painting. This annual Competition invites artists to provide a fresh, modern interpretation of the Tasmanian landscape. The theme focuses on the landscapes of Tasmania, though the term is interpreted in its broadest sense; entries can encompass seascapes, cityscapes, or abstract reflections on the Tasmanian environment. The primary goal of the Project is to stimulate meaningful conversations about the possibilities and meanings of "landscape" in a modern context. Selected finalists will have their work showcased in a major Exhibition in the historic village of Evandale, offering immense visibility and a chance to win one of the most significant cash prizes in the southern hemisphere.
