Short Description
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE MUNICH – the residency programs of the City of Munich and Lothringer 13 Halle, in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut, are offering three research and working residencies for professional artists from various artistic disciplines (visual arts, music, literature, film, dance/performance). Selected artists develop an independent/self-chosen project that conceptually engages with the topic of “Antifascist cultures of the present.” The residency is part of the joint project of Lothringer 13 Halle and the Goethe-Institut titled “Antifascist cultures of the present.”
Eligibility
Professional artists from various artistic disciplines (visual arts, music, literature, film, dance/performance), with primary residence in one of the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine.
- Applicants who previously completed a residency at Villa Waldberta or Ebenboeckhaus are not eligible.
- The applicant’s primary residence must be in one of the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, or Ukraine.
- Applicants must be professional and full-time artists/cultural workers.
- Applicants of all artistic disciplines are welcome, including visual arts, music, literature, dance/performance, and film.
- Good knowledge of English and/or German.
- Personal application only (no applications submitted by third parties).
- The selected artist must comply with all contractual requirements of the City of Munich as the operator of the residency program at Ebenböckhaus. A separate grant agreement will be issued.
Submission Requirements
- All documents must be compiled into a single PDF file named “LastName_FirstName.pdf”. The file must not exceed 10MB.
- Motivational Letter (statement of interest in the residency) and project idea related to the topic of “Antifascist Cultures of the Present” (max. 2 pages of text + 4 pages of visual material).
- CV (Curriculum Vitae) (max. 2 pages)
- Artistic Portfolio (max. 20 pages)

Program Benefits & Awards
During their residency, the selected artists will stay at the Ebenböckhaus and develop an independent/self-chosen project that conceptually engages with the topic of “ANTIFASCIST CULTURES OF THE PRESENT”. The team of Ebenböckhaus and Lothringer 13 Halle will accompany the research process and provide support throughout the residency. Additionally, each artist will hold a studio space at Lothringer 13 Halle. It is expected that the artists will participate in a public event at Ebenböckhaus and present their project at Lothringer 13 Halle.
Each of the three guest artists receives a monthly grant of €1,300 from the residency program of the City of Munich (a total of €3,900 for the three-month residency). For one public event in the Ebenbroeckhaus, each artist is provided €1,000 for material and production costs upon agreement. Housing in the Ebenböckhaus is free of charge. Travel expenses (economy class) within Europe up to €350 will be refunded by the Goethe-Institut Athen. Additional production costs of up to €1,500 per project for development and further elaboration will be made available by Lothringer 13 Halle upon agreement.
