Phileas – The Austrian Office for Contemporary Art invites museums, biennials and art institutions to apply for grants to support international projects with Austrian and Austria-based artists in 2026.

Over the last ten years, Phileas has provided funding to 136 projects around the world enabling the production of more than 250 new artworks.

Phileas is now welcoming a new round of grant applications for international projects featuring Austrian and Austria-based artists, taking place in 2026.

Who Can Apply?

  • Non-profit art organizations based outside of Austria, such as museums, biennials, and cultural institutions
  • Applications must be submitted by institutions, not by artists or commercial entities

Eligibility Criteria

  • The project must feature an Austrian or Austria-based artist
  • The project must open in 2026
  • Eligible formats include:
    • Solo or group exhibitions
    • Biennial participations
    • Institutional presentations
  • Priority is given to:
    • Solo exhibitions
    • Projects involving the production of new artworks
  • Projects by international artists based in Austria that take place in their countries of origin are not eligible

Application Requirements

Applications must be submitted in English and include:

  • Project description and its significance to your institution, including:
    • Type of project
    • Dates and venue
    • Name(s) of participating artist(s)
    • Relevant image material with captions
  • Contact information for the project curator or manager
  • Portfolio(s) of the participating artist(s)
  • Detailed budget, including secured or expected co-funding from other sources
