Institute for Provocation (IFP) / 激发研究所. IFP is an independent workspace and think tank hosting residencies, research projects, and exhibitions that stretch the borders between art, architecture, and other disciplines.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the IFP Residency / 艺术驻地申请.

This residency supports research that proposes cross-disciplinary strategies to collect information, read or produce work, or conduct artistic experiments. IFP also opens up for research in disciplines other than the arts that can provide the contemporary arts with new insights, modes of thinking, and/or research strategies. Residency proposals should show a link with the local context without being limited to it.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Artists and researchers (including those in disciplines other than the arts).
  • Project Focus: The research proposal must demonstrate a link to the local Chinese context.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Workspace & Support: Supported projects are provided with local assistance and a studio to work in.
  • Funding Partnerships: IFP has strong collaborations with the Mondriaan Foundation (Netherlands), Iaspis (Sweden), the Australia Council for the Arts, and the Danish Arts Council, which provide specific grants for residencies to work at IFP.

Application Fee & Program Costs:

  • Self-Funded Elements: Money for travel, production, and per diem needs to be raised by the artist in collaboration with IFP (unless covered by one of the partner grants mentioned above).

Application Requirements:

Project proposals must include:

  1. Research outline (1-3 A4 pages).
  2. CV and artist statement.
  3. Portfolio (PDF format).
  4. Proposed timing.
