ILLUSTRACIENCIA’ award promotes scientific culture and illustration, encouraging the development of scientific and nature illustration as a discipline linked to research and dissemination.

Organizers: Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN-CSIC), and Catalan Association of Science Communication (ACCC).

Eligibility: Open to individuals or teams (18+ years old) worldwide. Previous winners, jury members, organizers, and Illustraciencia Academy teachers are ineligible.

Categories:

  • Scientific: Illustrations that synthesize and visually represent scientific information with clarity and rigor.
  • Naturalist: Detailed, reality-faithful representations of nature with harmonious compositions.

 

Submission Requirements:

  • Deadline: February 25, 2025 – March 31, 2025 (11:59 p.m. CEST).
  • Format: A4 size (210 x 297mm), 72 DPI, RGB, no watermarks/text (except necessary symbols/signatures).
  • File Naming: Title of the illustration (e.g., “Loligo-vulgaris.jpg”).
  • Informative Text: 100–150 words, describing the artwork’s scientific relevance. If not in Spanish, a Spanish translation is required.
  • AI Use: Must be disclosed.

Selection Process:

  • Jury selects 40 illustrations based on technical and scientific rigor.
  • Public online voting for a Mention award via Facebook.
  • Final winners announced between May 27–30, 2025.
