Organizer Information:

In Situ Polyculture Commons (ISPC) is located on the Hartley Hill commons in Westminster, Vermont. The organization supports artists, writers, and creative cohorts by providing access to serene rural environments, shared studio spaces, and a supportive community.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the 2026 ISPC Residency Open Call.

This program offers self-directed residencies and creative retreats for individuals and collaborative groups (up to 6 people). Residents can work at their own pace within a peaceful rural setting, engaging with the land and local communities. Cohorts of 2 to 6 artists work on-site at a time.

New for 2026: ISPC is actively seeking proposals for site-specific sculpture and installation in their meadow. These works must be made of found, foraged, environmentally inert, or biodegradable materials (no plastics). Proposals for these meadow installations may be eligible for a small honorarium and material reimbursement.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Open to artists, writers, curators, ecologists, experimental archaeologists, and collaborative groups.
  • Scope: International applicants are welcome (ISPC can provide invitation letters).
  • Family/Pets: Dog-friendly and open to hosting artists who are parents (family-unit accommodations available).

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Workspace: Access to the 2000-sq-ft renovated Art Barn (studio walls, sink, hayloft salon, observation deck).
  • Accommodation: Off-grid yurts or tenting/camping spaces (off-site inn partners available for those who prefer not to "glamp"). Includes a guest kitchen and indoor/outdoor showers.
  • Funding: A few free "gift residencies" and two travel reimbursement awards (up to $600) are available based on economic need. Accepted meadow installation proposals may receive an honorarium.

Program Costs:

  • Residency Fee: Sliding scale of $15 to $100+ per day, based on self-assessed economic means (subsidized rates for local artists/economic need).
  • Expenses: Travel and self-catering groceries.

Submit a single application (even for groups) including:

  1. Work Samples: Up to 10 images with captions (or links/video URLs).
  2. Statement of Interest: Why you wish to attend.
  3. Bio & Statement: Professional bio and artist statement.
  4. References: Names and contact info for 2 references.
  5. Optional: Site-specific proposal for the meadow.
