Joya: AiR (Joya: arte + ecología / Artist in Residence) is an off-grid, climate-positive interdisciplinary residency founded in 2006 by Simon and Donna Beckmann. Located in the Parque Natural Sierra María–Los Vélez, Almería, Spain, it integrates art, ecology, and sustainable living practices. Joya: AiR supports artists across diverse disciplines while fostering community, collaboration, and environmentally conscious creative work.

Interdisciplinary Artist Residency at Joya: AiR 2026
This residency offers 1–2 week placements (longer stays available) for artists, writers, and researchers to develop projects in an off-grid, nature-integrated setting. Residents have access to private studios, accommodation, meals, and 20 hectares of surrounding land. The program encourages creative experimentation, dialogue with other artists, and sustainable, climate-positive approaches to art-making. Disciplines include Visual Art, Sculpture, Ceramics, Dance, Theatre, Music, Writing, New Media, Curatorial Practices, and Film.

Eligibility

  • International and national artists, writers, and researchers.

Application Fee

€400 per week + 10% tax (covers accommodation, studio space, meals, and transport from Vélez Rubio).
